 ABOUT

Prairie Star Care Farm is situated on our family farm (Larson Hemsgård) located in the rural community of Isanti County. Four generations have been stewards of the land (started in 1878) and recognized by the State of Minnesota as a Century Farm.

As part of an evolving vision, Prairie Star Care Farm offers destination programing with opportunities for people seeking to enjoy a restorative experience on a farm. It is a place where people with and without a defined need come together to reconnect with nature, plants, animals, and one another.

As humans, we have a special relationship with the natural world. Connecting with nature makes us feel good and allows us the chance to move freely through and with our environment. When we talk about connecting with nature it includes our access to and engagement with it. Which is why our mission is to provide a place to help people engage in a relationship with nature – a relationship that helps themselves and the planet. And we do this through evidence-informed, nature-based recreation activities; innovative education; and community engagement events.

What began as a dream of doing something good for others has become a reality because of hard work, dedication and the belief in sharing the blessings of the land with those who find their way to it.

Prairie Star Care Farm is manifesting a dream to build a better relationship between people and the planet through:

  • Sensory contact with the natural world

  • Finding an emotional bond with, and love for, nature

  • Taking time to appreciate the beauty of nature

  • Thinking about the meaning and signs of nature

  • Showing compassion and care for nature â€‹â€‹
